vineyard cycling route Hoog Beek & Rooyen Zeist past vineyards and castles

Wijngaard Hoog Beek en Royen is the result of the meeting of two ambitions. Members of  the Rotary Club Zeist has long felt the need for a multi-year project to raise money for charities in the immediate vicinity. And at Het Utrechts Landschap, plans were in the making for the redevelopment of the area around the Hoog Beek en Royen estate. The foundation wanted to do something with the English landscape garden and the surrounding areas, including the former vegetable garden.
On one of the old estates of the Stichtse Lustwarande, where a vegetable garden was once lovingly maintained, in the  winter of 2011/2012 another dug up piece of earth enriched with lime, magnesium and minerals. Since 2013, a vineyard has been created with almost two thousand sticks and volunteers work together with professionals to harvest beautiful grapes. The vines that we have planted are the Johanniter and Souvignier Gris grape varieties.
A large group of volunteers are active in the maintenance and harvesting of the grapes.
