Country estates and estates

Landgoed Nienhof

The Ni? Nhof estate borders the Kromme Rijn. In the Middle Ages, the nearby Oostbroek monastery had a 'uithof', a farm here. In addition, the monks built a new farm: a 'nien hof'. The monastery went under during the Reformation and the property changed hands many times thereafter. The estate is characterized by meadows, coppice and deciduous forest. This high-rising ash? and oak forest is one of the most interesting forests in the province from an ecological point of view. The ash lets a lot of light through, so there is a rich undergrowth with the large beetle orchid and forest sedge. The varied forest is rich in birds, such as the long-eared owl, tree falcon and many woodpeckers? and tit species. Along the Kromme Rijn is a river forest, grasslands and a side channel with islands. This is the starting point of the boating excursions with the Pont van het Landschap.
