Walking through the polders near Hierden

In the outskirts of Hierden you can walk through the polders of the Gelderse Vallei. You will find peace and space here, ideal for recharging the battery.

Wide polder
After a night's sleep at EuroParcs Resort Veluwemeer, you'll probably feel like going for a long walk. Put on your sturdy shoes and set off nice and early, so you can enjoy the dew on the fields and the rising sun. On a leafy road you walk past vast meadows where cows graze and the water of ditches and streams sparkles in the sun. A typical Dutch landscape!

Essenburgh
Just before Hierden you pass the Bloemkampen on the left: a humid nature reserve with flowery hay and grasslands. Further on you can view the castle and estate De Essenburgh, built by order of Johan Coolwagen. He wanted to acquire a place within the Ridderschap van Veluwe with a prestigious status symbol, but when this failed he had to sell the estate to his creditors. In the hamlet of Hulshorst you can see some beautiful thatched farms, through the polder you walk back to EuroParcs Resort Veluwemeer.
