Church
Kerk zonder toren
In the 19th century, the Roman Catholic community held its church services in an emergency church that stood on the same location as the current St. Bernulphus Church. In 1860 the community, until then under the parish of Arnhem, became independent. Bernulphus, a saint from the 11th century who was parish priest of Oosterbeek, is chosen as the parish name. A new church was completed in 1885: a neo-gothic hall church with three naves. During the fighting between the Allies and the German occupier in 1944, the statue of Christ received two bullet wounds. The statue has not been restored. The tower was damaged to such an extent that (for financial reasons) it was no longer rebuilt after the war, but provided with a tent roof.
