Description
The route starts at the Market of Nieuwkerke. The name refers to the religious troubles of the 16th century. Nieuwkerke was then an important centre of the cloth industry. The first hedge sermons were held here and the iconoclasm broke out. Geuzen were those who no longer fulfilled their religious obligation as Roman Catholics. The route runs over a rural, but undulating course. As a reward for the effort, the walker is given beautiful panoramas of the Leie valley and of the ridge from the Katsberg to the Kemmelberg.
