Geuzen Walking Route

The route starts at the Nieuwkerke Market. The name refers to the religious troubles of the 16th century. Nieuwkerke was then an important center of the cloth industry. This is where the first hedge sermons were held and iconoclasm arose. Beggars were those who no longer fulfilled their religious duties as Roman Catholics. The route runs over a rural, but undulating route. As a reward for the effort, the hiker receives beautiful panoramas of the Leie valley and the ridge from the Katsberg to the Kemmelberg.
