An encounter with the Drenthe heath sheep is inevitable if you cycle near the Balloërveld. There is a large herd grazing here. It is wonderful to cycle along the water, the heath and sand drifts and over the many bridges in the stream valley. Not only the idyllic villages of Anloo, Balloo and Taarlo are worth a visit. Be sure to visit the pleasant village greens of Zuidlaren and Rolde.
