East of the village of Bakkeveen lies a sandy plain: the Bakkeveense Duinen. Here you can enjoy a nice walk - possibly also with the dog - and completely relax. During this route you walk through the Bakkeveense Duinen, a beautiful nature reserve that consists of dozens of large and small areas. Due to the sandy soil, there may be little water in the summer after a long dry period. The route around the sand plain is paved and therefore suitable for wheelchair users. Bakkeveen, which is located near Drachten, is located in a peat colony. The Bakkeveense Vaart was dug in the seventeenth century for the drainage of the peat and the removal of peat. The Slotplaats has been intensively drained for forestry. And the forest is also designed for that. Large areas have been felled and the straight, wide paths should make the removal of wood as easy as possible. Bakkeveen is now a typical commuter village and many residents are oriented to places such as Drachten, Leeuwarden and Heerenveen for work.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
