Col Du VAM route

Discover the surroundings of Dwingelderveld National Park and the Col-Du-Vam cycle route. A beautifully varied area for cycling.

Information center De Blinkerd is located at one of the highest places in Drenthe. From here you have a beautiful panoramic view of the area. In the information center you can learn more about the origins of the landscape around the Oude Diep stream.

Dwingelderveld National Park
Dwingelderveld National Park is the largest wet heath area in Western Europe. Wet lows and high sand ridges alternate in the vast Dwingelderveld. You will find heathland, forest, juniper bushes, shifting sand and more than forty fens. Some of these fens were created during the ice age, others are the result of peat excavations. Thanks to the great variety in the Dwingelderveld there are many plants and animals. In the spring you see white seas of peat fluff, in the summer the heath is endlessly purple and in the autumn the grasses give the area an orange glow. A beautiful area for cycling!

Col-Du-Vam cycling route
The Col-Du-Vam cycle route is a challenging cycle route on the highest point of Drenthe. There is a four meter wide path with a length of 2,100 meters, divided into three climbing routes and an average gradient of 10 percent. The Col-Du-Vam cycle route is built on the former landfill.
