Description

From castle to castle through the North Holland Dune Reserve! You will also visit a few nice places, such as Wijk aan Zee. After you start, you immediately cycle past Marquette Castle, on the edge of Heemskerk. Later today you will pass the nearby Assumburg Castle: when it was vacant after 1867, the paneling and utensils were transferred to Marquette. You cycle to Assumburg Castle via Beverwijk. The castle probably dates from the thirteenth century, the current building was built in 1546. Although the castle looks solid, the walls are thin: it was not a fortress, but served as a living space for the nobility. Immediately take a look at the show garden, landscaped in French classical style, which is open for visitors. Stop off in Heemskerk at LAURENTZ UIT&EATEN for a snack and a drink!
