Walking through the countryside near Elburg

Just above Elburg it is wonderful to walk through the ancient polders. You will find plenty of natural beauty and tranquility.

Eekt
You first walk a bit through the hamlet of Eekt. From the quiet lane you look out on old shuttered farms, vast grasslands and rows of gnarled trees. You will have no trouble leaving the everyday routine behind you right away. An ideal route for a relaxing day.

Oosterwolde
Where you now walk on low-traffic roads through the vast polder, there were once extensive peat areas. They were mined in the twelfth century and cultivated by digging ditches. Dykes were constructed to prevent flooding from the Zuiderzee or even the IJssel. Like the ancient Winterdijk that you walk over. In Oosterwolde you can still see some beautiful old buildings, such as the Dutch Reformed Church.
