Tour of the river and polder landscape

Your route starts at the nice hotel and living room cafe Oortjeshekken. First you walk along an unpaved path along the Bison Bay. Along this former sand dune you see wild flowers and plants, you can also encounter Konik horses and Galloway cattle. From the Ooijse Bandijk you have a beautiful view over the Waal and the floodplains. You pass through De Vlietberg, a hamlet that originated at a former brick factory of which only a chimney remains. On the horizon you see the green hills and the Waal Bridge at Nijmegen. Along the rough landscape of the Oude Waal you walk to Tiengeboden. There are several monumental farms on the dike. You walk back along the remains of the IJssellinie, built between 1950 and 1955 during the Cold War.
