Just above Diepenbeek you will take a walk through some sub-areas of De Wijers, the Land of 1001 Ponds. Put on your waterproof walking shoes for a varied walk through the beautiful Belgian Limburg. You start the route at Junction 100 at the Demerstrand sports and reaction domain. First you walk your legs loose on the path along the river Demer. Further on you walk through De Dijken and the Patersbos. In these small nature reserves you will find plenty of variety between deciduous forest, flowery meadows and ponds. You will experience a refreshing silence here, ideal for a day of relaxation. You will pass the former Plompaertmeulen. The route also takes you through De Dauteweyers, a landscape that consists of a mosaic of alder swamp forest, damp meadows and ponds. This nature reserve was created by the construction of fish ponds and the extraction of iron ore in the nineteenth century.
