Cycling around historic Ypres

Prepare for a cycling tour of over 75 kilometers that starts in Ypres and takes you through De Westhoek. Along the way you will feel the history that the area brings.

Ypres is known for its turbulent past, especially during the First World War. The Menin Gate contains the names of approximately 55,000 fallen soldiers. All fallen soldiers are commemorated daily during the Last Post ceremony at 8 p.m.

The cycle route starts at the Grote Markt. On the Grote Markt you will discover the Cloth Hall with the belfry, the Nieuwerck, the Old Kasselrijgebouw, cozy cafes, restaurants and many shops.
You cycle from Ypres towards Kemmel, Loker and Westouter. A green environment over rolling hills and flat polders , past historic towns, picturesque villages and many British cemeteries as witnesses of the First World War. You recognize the landscapes from the spring classic Ghent-Wevelgem.

Ypres is the vibrant heart of the Westhoek and there are many tasty stories to discover in this region: visit the city brewery or taste one of the many regional beers that win annual prizes!
