Cycling around Zoetermeer

This 50 kilometer cycling route takes you from Lansingerland to Moerkapelle and via the Zoetermeerse Plassen, Zoetermeer, Berkel and Rodenrijs you cycle through the Lage Bergse Bos back to the starting point of the route.

On to Moerkapelle
The route starts at the parking lot in Lansingerland. With a view of the Rotte - a peat river - you cycle north to Moerkapelle. 

Zoetermeerse Plas
You cycle around the Zoetermeerse Plas via the Benthuizer Plas and the Noordhovense Plas. This is a lake in the Noord Aa recreational area, which was dug for sand extraction for the construction of various residential areas. The water has a depth of 25 to 30 meters. Many residents of Zoetermeer and the surrounding area enjoy the Zoetermeerse Plas all year round. Recreational opportunities are plentiful. You also cycle through the west side of Zoetermeer. The place grew from peat extraction to a city. The peat was chipped and even dredged under water and sold as peat in surrounding towns for fuel. As a result of peat extraction, large bodies of water were created. Water features were then reclaimed and parceled out.

Lage and Hoge Bergse Bos
The last part of the route you cycle through the Lage and Hoge Bergse Bos, a recreational area in South Holland. It is a wooded area interspersed with open areas of water and land. Part of it is grazed by Scottish Highlanders. The hills in the Hoge Bergse Bos were created by the disposal of demolition and construction waste. Through the woods you drive along the Rotte back to Lansingerland.
