Peizerdiep
After a cup of coffee in the brasserie of Van Der Valk Groningen - Hoogkerk, put on your walking shoes. You will soon pass through the hamlet of Peizermade.'Made\\\' means meadow or grassland, i.e. the meadow near Peize. This used to be an extremely humid area that often flooded. You can still see water there: you cross the Gouw and follow the Peizerdiep for a long way.
Pillar maggots
The Peizermaden is a beautiful low peat area with forests, hedgerows and rugged grasslands. It is part of the Onlanden nature reserve. The rugged low peat areas of the Onlanden form a unique piece of nature between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils.
