Tour of Reeuwijkse Plassen

From Reeuwijk you cycle towards Gouda and around the Reeuwijkse plassen and discover the beautiful nature reserve of this area.

The route starts at TOP Reeuwijkse Hout. Reeuwijk originated as a medieval peat extraction site and was first mentioned in 1248. The area experienced a period of prosperity from the 18th century onwards when the peat was dredged and dried to be used as peat in Gouda's industry. This is how the Reeuwijkse plassen were created, which you also cycle along during this route.

Nice Gouda
During the cycle route you will pass through the cozy and atmospheric Gouda. Discover authentic Gouda with its small medieval streets, beautiful canals and many courtyards. A truly unique city, definitely worth a visit. There are still a large number of historic and monumental buildings in the city center. Gouda grew into an important city in the Middle Ages, partly thanks to inland navigation on the rivers the Gouwe and the Hollandse IJssel, to which Gouda is close. Gouda is known for its Gouda cheese, but also for its syrup waffles and the manufacture of candles, among other things.

Reeuwijkse Plassen
During this cycling tour you cycle around the Reeuwijkse Plassen. You will find an exuberant bird world in a typical Dutch peat landscape with polders, wooden quays, mills, dikes and farm roads. It couldn't be more Dutch! The Reeuwijkse Plassen consist of thirteen lakes between Bodegraven and Gouda and are separated by narrow roads, which part of this cycle tour takes you over. You cycle back to Reeuwijk via Woerden and Bodegraven.
