Walking route through Elburg

Elburg is a Hanseatic city on the former Zuiderzee. In the old center you will find plenty of beautiful old buildings and an almost straight street plan. An ideal town for a walk!

Fortress
When you walk into the Elburg branch, the first thing you see is  the St. Nicholas Church, which dates from the fifteenth century. On the left and right you see monuments that are sometimes centuries old. What a unique atmosphere! Also note the characteristic cobblestone sidewalks in front of some old houses. These sidewalks are made of white cobblestones and have inlaid figures of black cobblestones.

Gruithuis
You will also pass the National Historical Organ Museum and Het Gruithuis: the only remaining house in Elburg that dates from the time before the city was moved at the end of the fourteenth century. At the Goorpoort you can see a piece of the old city wall, before you walk along the canal. Here you can enjoy the view of Elburg from a distance. You also pass the Jewish cemetery and the fifteenth-century Vischpoort.
