Description
There are two towns full of history on the former Zuiderzee: Kampen and Elburg. This route takes you through these towns and through the forests along the Drontermeer.
Drontermeer
From Kampen you can drive straight into the polder. Kick off your legs while enjoying panoramic views of meadows and the Drontermeer. It is wonderfully quiet cycling here in the Gelderse Vallei. This beautiful town still has an almost straight street plan!
Reve-Abbert
A new forest was planted on the edge of the Drontermeer in the 1960s: Boswachterij Reve-Abbert. Here you drive through a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. Further on you pass through the Hanseatic city of Kampen. On the IJsselkade you see one beautiful building after another. Look back from the other side of the river and you will have a beautiful view of the Bovenkerk, a cruciform basilica whose construction began in the twelfth century.
