Description

Hoorn was once one of the most important ports in the wider region. That is why you can still see beautiful monuments, which are reminders of ancient wealth.

Marker lake
The route starts at Van der Valk Hotel Restaurant Hoorn. After an overnight stay you hit the road - but you can also just park here and enjoy coffee and apple pie! From here you can take a nice city walk through Hoorn. This monumental town with its many historic buildings is the unofficial capital of the West Friesland region and part of Hoorn is a protected cityscape. From the Westerdijk you can enjoy a beautiful view over the Markermeer.

Monuments
After Amsterdam, Hoorn was for centuries the most important port city in the area. You can still see a lot of this rich history in the old city center. Due to the many beautiful monumental buildings, this part enjoys a protected cityscape. You pass the buildings of the Westfries Museum and the beautiful Waag from 1609. On the Grote Oost you see one old building after another. You also walk along the sixteenth-century Oosterpoort, the only remaining city gate in Hoorn.
