Walking through Katwijk aan Zee

Walking through the dunes with your hair in the wind means ultimate enjoyment! This walking route of over 15 kilometers takes you through Katwijk aan Zee.

Walking through the dunes
The coastline at Katwijk was renovated in 2014. There is now a wonderfully quiet beach, with a wide row of dunes in front of it. There is a paved walking path in the middle of the dunes along which this route runs. The authentic boulevard is on one hand and the sea on the other. Wonderful walking! You also walk part of the route through the Coepelduynen, which are located between Katwijk aan Zee and Noordwijk aan Zee. It is a varied nature reserve: you will find dune grasslands, shrublands and forests with special plants and animals. There is no clear inner dune edge, making the transition to the polder landscape quite abrupt.

Katwijk Museum
Along the way you will pass the Katwijks Museum, which is located in the center of Katwijk aan Zee. The museum combines a collection of paintings by Dutch and foreign painters with a collection of local and regional attractions. The museum is housed in a spacious and recently expanded complex. A former, monumental shipowner's house is the eye-catcher.
