Walking through Katwijk aan Zee

Walking through the dunes with your hair in the wind means ultimate enjoyment! This walking route of more than 15 kilometers takes you through Katwijk aan Zee.

In 2014, the coastline at Katwijk was renewed. There is now a wonderfully quiet beach, with a wide row of dunes in front of it. In the middle of the dunes is a paved footpath along which this route runs. The authentic boulevard is on one hand and the sea on the other. Lovely walk! You also walk part of the route through the Coepelduynen, which lie between Katwijk aan Zee and Noordwijk aan Zee. It is a varied nature reserve: you will find dune grasslands, shrubs and forest with special plants and animals. There is no clear inner dune edge, so that the transition to the polder landscape is quite abrupt.

Katwijks Museum
Along the way you will pass the Katwijks Museum, which is located in the center of Katwijk aan Zee. The museum combines a collection of paintings by Dutch and foreign painters with a collection of local and regional sights. The museum is housed in a spacious and recently expanded complex. A former, monumental shipowner's house is the eye-catcher.
