Description
There is no shortage of beautiful old churches in De Marne. Discover the fishing past and the beautiful old wooden houses at the harbour of Zoutkamp!
St. Peter's Church
The route starts in Leens, a picturesque terp village. You will immediately see several monumental annuitant homes and the beautifully situated Petruskerk, the nave of which dates from 1100. Then you walk through the polders on narrow roads. It will not be difficult to switch back here with those vast skies and the silence around you. You will pass several centuries-old farms, it is as if you are going back in time here.
Silver Fleet
You cross the Hunsingokanaal and follow the water's edge to near Ulrum. Here you turn off to Niekerk. At the wierde in Niekerk you walk past a thirteenth-century church, which was restored in the seventeenth century with proceeds from the Zilvervloot. At the harbour of Zoutkamp you see a few old wooden houses a little further on. Drop in at the Visserijmuseum Zoutkamp, here you can learn all about the history of this special area! You walk back via Ulrum.
