Description

IJsselstein owes its name to the Dutch IJssel and originated as a settlement near IJsselstein Castle. The center of IJsselstein has great cultural-historical value. The contours have remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages and the regular street pattern also dates from the Middle Ages. The city center is surrounded by the city moat and a small part of the city walls. An eye-catcher in the city center is the St. Nicholas Basilica from 1887. Via Boveneind Zuidzijde you walk out of IJsselstein and straight into nature. Here you can completely relax when you walk along the canal. You walk through the city along the Hollandsche IJssel.
