Lauwersmeer National Park is a beautiful cycling region. Enjoy the views over the water and the special animals that occur here.
Lauwersmeer
You start in Zoutkamp, a former fishing and fortified town that was once located on the Lauwerszee. From here you drive to Lauwersmeer National Park. From Kijkheuvel - Rechteind you can see Scottish Highlanders grazing, while marsh harriers hunt high in the sky. The reeds here are full of life.
Lauwersoog
The village of Lauwersoog only came into existence after the dike of the Lauwerszee. Many fishermen moor in the harbor, a nice sight. Cycling along the edge of the Lauwersmeer you get a good impression of this beautiful unspoilt nature reserve. Further on you will pass the Landmark Zeearend Lauwersoog: an information board with a full-size cut-out of a sea eagle. Also stop at the Bird Watching Hut Jaap Deensgat to spot spoonbills!
