Description

National Park Lauwersmeer is a beautiful cycling region. Enjoy the views over the water and the special animals that live here.

Lauwersmeer
You start in Zoutkamp, a former fishing and fortified town that once lay on the Lauwerszee. From here you drive to National Park Lauwersmeer. From the Kijkheuvel - Rechteind you can see Scottish Highlanders grazing, while marsh harriers hunt high in the air. The reeds here are full of life.

Lauwers eye
The village of Lauwersoog was only created after the diking in of the Lauwerszee. Many fishermen moor in the harbor, a nice sight. Cycling along the edge of the Lauwersmeer you get a good impression of this beautiful unspoilt nature reserve. Further on you will pass the Landmark Sea Eagle Lauwersoog: an information board with a life-size cut-out of a sea eagle. Also get off at the Vogeluitkijkhut Jaap Deensgat to spot spoonbills!
