South Limburg not only excels in beautiful nature with the special hillside forests, you also see beautiful castles and old churches. It is wonderful walking here!
Dolsberg
The route starts at Camping Gulperberg. From here you walk down into the Gulpdal. Gulpen is known for the striking church tower that once housed the St. Peter's Church. You can enjoy a nice terrace right on the Gulp, on the Markt. Via the 160 meter high Dolsberg you walk to Wijlre, along one of the beautiful hillside forests for which South Limburg is known. In Wijlre you will pass Presseux or Kasteel Wijlre, built around 1625.
Wittem Castle
In the village of Wijlre you can enjoy a drink on a terrace at the cozy Brasserie Amuseer. Also a great spot for lunch! Take the time to look around Wijlre, where you will also find the Sint-Gertrudiskerk from 1839 and the Brandbrouwerij, the oldest in the Netherlands. In Wittem you will pass the Redemptorists Monastery from 1733 - on the other side of the road is the picturesque Wittem Castle. There is no lack of history with this beautiful route!
