Walking through the Loonse and Drunense Dunes

This walk of over 12 kilometers takes you through the Loonse and Drunense Duinen, one of the largest drifting sand areas in Western Europe. You get a good impression of the impressive area.

Loonse and Drunense Duinen
The route starts at Eetcafé De Klinkert, on the edge of the Loonse and Drunense Duinen.
In the area you will find forests, heathland and, above all, a lot of sand. That sand creates rather extreme conditions: the soil is dry and nutrient-poor. The drifting sand area originated in the late Middle Ages. Marvel at the dusty trees and enjoy the chirping field crickets. But above all: completely relax in this beautiful area.

Brabant Sahara
The Brabant Sahara, as the Loonse and Drunense Duinen are sometimes called, is a dry area where you feel like you are in another world. In terms of landscape and temperature differences. In summer the difference between day and night can be as much as 40 degrees. Good to know: dogs are allowed on the off-leash route or in the special off-leash area.
