Walking through the Loonse and Drunense Dunes

This walk of over 12 kilometers takes you through the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, one of the largest drifting sand areas in Western Europe. You get a good impression of the impressive area.

Loon and Drunen Dunes
The route starts at Eetcafé De Klinkert, on the edge of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes.
In the area you will find forest, heathland and especially a lot of sand. That sand creates quite extreme conditions: the soil is dry and nutrient-poor. The drifting sand area was created in the late Middle Ages. Marvel at the trees covered in dust and enjoy the chirping field crickets. But above all: completely relax in this beautiful area.

Brabant Sahara
The Brabant Sahara, as the Loonse and Drunense Dunes are sometimes called, is a dry area where you can imagine yourself in another world. In terms of landscape and temperature differences. In the summer, the difference between day and night can be 40 degrees. Good to know: dogs are allowed off the leash on the off-leash route or in the special off-leash area.

Wooded area
You end up at Eetcafé De Klinkert, a cozy Brabant café on the edge of the Loonse and Drunense dunes.
