Walking through the nature of Groede

Walking through Groede
This short walk of just over 6 kilometers begins at Strandpaviljoen Puur in Groede. From here, you'll walk along the Zeeweg through the green surroundings and over the dunes towards the west. Groede, like many places in West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, is prone to flooding. The inhabitants of Groede are also known as "papvreters" (porridge eaters), because of the Groese paptaart (Groese paptaart). A delicacy—a biscuit filled with yellow cream—that landowners used to offer to farmers when they came to pay their rent. Groede is a picturesque village with several historic houses. These are mainly located around the Market Square, where the Grote Kerk (Great Church) also stands.

Black Gatsche Creek
After walking along the Zeedijk for a while, you'll change direction and walk along Zwarte Gatsche Kreek. This is a creek inside the dike that flows into the Groedse Duintjes dunes. Along the right bank of this creek lies a nature reserve, and you'll walk right through it. What a peaceful environment! Continue north along Zwarte Gatsche Kreek and along Zeeweg back to the starting point of this route, which is also the end point: Strandpaviljoen Puur.

Relax at Puur
After this walk, it's wonderful to relax at Strandpaviljoen Puur in Groede Bad. It's the perfect place for a snack, a drink, or dinner with a sea view. What more could you ask for?
