Walking through De Meern and Leidsche Rijn

In the suburbs of Utrecht it is quiet walking. This route takes you through De Meern and Leidsche Rijn. A walk full of natural beauty and sights.

Castellum Hoge Woerd
Just before junction 23 you will pass the Castellum Hoge Woerd museum. Here you will learn more about the Roman finds that were made in this area, such as a ship and the remains of the border fort Fletio. From the museum a path leads through the orchard to a replica Roman watchtower.

Máximapark
From junction 53 you walk through the Binnenhof, the heart of the Máximapark. A beautiful area of water features, lanes and bridges. At junction 52 you walk along the Viking Rhine: the original course of the Oude Rijn. Fearsome Drakars once sailed across the water here. Now ducks swim there. Along the leafy banks of the Leidsche Rijn you walk to the park called De Hoge Weide.
