Sas van Ghent
The route starts in the Flemish Wachtebeke. You drive through the forest to the town of Zelzate. On the Grote Markt you can view the statue of Mietje Stroel here:'The girl who peed where her hair fit\\\'. Mietje is officially engaged to Manneken Pis. Sas van Gent is a former fortified town. You will find a nice atmosphere here, on the Market you can admire the Maria Ascension Church from 1892.
Axel
Just before Axel you pass the Axelse Kreek, one of the largest creeks in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. It is a remnant of a channel that ran from the Western Scheldt through Hulst and back to the Western Scheldt. You can also visit Museum Het Warenhuis here. Then you cycle through the polders. Get some fresh air and enjoy the silence and fresh air.
