Cycle route along Hulst and Terneuzen

During this beautiful cycling route of almost 60 kilometers through Zeeuws-Vlaanderen you will discover the hidden creeks, old line lines and forts in and around Hulst and you will explore Zeeuws-Vlaanderen at its best: by bicycle!

The route starts at the parking lot center in Hulst. Hulst is the most Flemish city in the Netherlands. The fortified city has a Burgundian atmosphere and is a protected cityscape. Hulst has 68 national monuments, including parts of the ramparts, the town hall on the Grote Markt and the basilica. Plenty of things to see in this beautiful, old city. After discovering Hulst, cycle north towards Kloosterzande.

Then you get back on your bike and ride past the Groenendijk windmill, which is regularly put into operation by a volunteer miller.

Direction Terneuzen
Then you cycle down along the Western Scheldt towards Terneuzen. This city is known as the city of the Flying Dutchman, the Western Scheldt and mussels. The city has been closely related to shipping since its origins. In the old harbour, where the Markt is now located, goods were transhipped and then transported to Ghent by barge. You enter this pleasant port city from the north and you cycle south via the Otheensche Kreek. You cycle through the beautiful polder landscape to various small villages, such as Spui, Magrette and Steenovens. After many kilometers you will arrive in the fortified town of Hulst.
