Description
The route starts at Herberg de Zwaan. Enjoy a coffee and something tasty here before you set off. First you walk through the floodplains along the Maas. Get a breath of fresh air under the high skies, while looking out over the river and flower-filled meadows. You soon enter Ammerzoden.
Further afield is Ammersoyen Castle, one of the best preserved authentic medieval castles in the Netherlands. With its striking corner towers and wide moat, it is truly a sight to see. The castle stands in an old Meuse bed that must have been cut off from the river before 1354. You walk back to Hedel through the fields. You pass the Reformed Church from 1640 and the castle ruins. Time for a coffee at Herberg de Zwaan.
