Through forest and heath near Grashoek

There are several special nature reserves to the west of Grashoek in Limburg. This route takes you through the Marisberg, the Scherliet and the Kwakvors.

Quackvors
On the Village Square you will pass the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church from 1954. The Pioneer Monument is also located here in memory of the people who developed Grashoek. Then you walk a bit between meadows and fields on roads with hardly any traffic. You walk through Kwakvors, a nature reserve of wet grasslands and bird-rich ponds.

Helenavaart
From junction 20 you will see the Scherliet on the left, which consists of grasslands and forest. Further on you walk along the Helenavaart: a canal where peat was once transported. Now it is part of nature, it is wonderfully quiet to walk along the banks under the trees. The Helenavaart forms the border between Limburg and Brabant here (left across the water). Finally, you pass through the coniferous forest of De Marisberg.
