Cycling route northern Veluwe

From the edge of Harderwijk you can drive straight onto the Veluwe. A nice day of driving through vast forests and heathlands, that's a great way to recover!

Elspeetse Heide
At restaurant La Famiglia you can enjoy a coffee with something tasty, so that you get on the saddle with enough energy. In the Leuvenumse Bos you immediately experience the characteristic silence of the Veluwe. You get energy from this immediately, cycling seems to go almost automatically. Just above the hamlet of Leuvenum you cycle through an agricultural enclave of fields and hedgerows. Further on, the landscape suddenly opens up when you cycle over the Elspeetse Heide.

Beekhuizer sand
You pass through Vierhouten, another agricultural enclave that lies in the middle of the forests. Just before junction 40 you cycle past the Veluwetransferium. Here is a thirty-metre high lookout tower for an unparalleled panorama over the forests! Nunspeet is a village where many painters settled at the end of the nineteenth century to capture farm life. Especially on sunny days, the dried-up, almost golden sand landscape of the Beekhuizerzand seems to be on another planet.
