Cycling route northern Veluwe

From the edge of Harderwijk you can drive straight onto the Veluwe. Enjoy a day of driving through vast forests and heaths, you will recover wonderfully!

Elspeet Heath
At restaurant La Famiglia you can enjoy a coffee with something delicious, so that you get on the saddle with enough energy. In the Leuvenumse Bos you immediately experience that characteristic silence of the Veluwe. You immediately get energy from this, cycling seems to go almost automatically. Just above the hamlet of Leuvenum you drive through an agricultural enclave of fields and wooded banks. Further on, the landscape suddenly opens up when you cycle across the Elspeetse Heide.

Beekhuizer sand
You pass through Vierhouten, another agricultural enclave in the middle of the woods. Just before junction 40 you cycle past the Veluwetransferium. Here is a thirty meter high watchtower for an unparalleled panorama over the forests! Nunspeet is a village where many painters settled at the end of the nineteenth century to record farm life. Especially on sunny days, the dried-up, almost golden sand landscape of the Beekhuizerzand seems to be on another planet.
