Description
Apeldoorn is a beautiful and pleasant town to cycle through. You also drive across the vast Veluwe. An area that is not only rich in natural beauty, but also in cultural history.
Art Nouveau
First you drive through Apeldoorn. It's hard to imagine, but around 1800 this was just a village. Over the course of the nineteenth century, it grew rapidly into a city that is now known for its many beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. You will also pass In de Zevende Hemel, a museum about Dutch festivals and traditions.
Radio Kootwijk
Then you drive through the vast forests of Kroondomein Het Loo. Enjoy nature and the silence. You pass through Elspeet and Uddel, further on you drive through the forests and heathlands of Boswachterij Kootwijk. On the Kootwijkerzand you look out over a unique drifting sand area with many fly pine trees. Radio Kootwijk was built in the 1920s for radio telegraphic contact with the then Dutch East Indies. The area around the former transmitter is a protected villagescape.
