Description
Apeldoorn is a beautiful and cozy town to cycle through. You also drive across the vast Veluwe. An area that is not only rich in natural beauty, but also in cultural history.
art nouveau
First you drive through Apeldoorn. You can hardly imagine it, but around 1800 this was just a village. In the course of the nineteenth century it grew rapidly into a city that is now known for its many beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. You will also pass In de Zevende Hemel, a museum about Dutch celebrations and traditions.
Radio Kootwijk
You then drive through the vast forests of Kroondomein Het Loo. Enjoy nature and the silence. You pass through Elspeet and Uddel, further on you drive through the woods and heaths of Boswachterij Kootwijk. On the Kootwijkerzand you look out over a unique drifting sand area with many flying pines. Radio Kootwijk was built in the 1920s for radio telegraphic contact with the former Dutch East Indies. The area around the former transmitter is a protected village view.
