Description

From Schalkwijk you can take a beautiful walk. You walk along grasslands and old fortresses. You can get a breath of fresh air at your leisure on the Lekdijk.

Ridderhofstad
Enjoy something tasty at PAND Pannenkoek Restaurant & IJssalon before you walk through Schalkwijk. In this picturesque ribbon village you walk along the Schalkwijkse Wetering. Here you can see, among other things, the Sint-Michaëlkerk, a neo-Gothic cruciform basilica from 1879. In the outlying area you also pass a few old farms. You can also see the knight's court town of Vuijlcop to the left of the wetering, a tower that originally dates from 1300.

Drowned Forest
You walk through the Verdronken Bos, a former forest that has been converted into a water storage area. The unpaved path along the canal is a nice walk with a view of grasslands and orchards. You pass several defenses, such as Lunet aan de Snel and Fort Honswijk. From the Lekdijk you have a beautiful view over the river and the floodplains. Finally, you pass the small walking park with garden complex that is located on the site of the former Kasteel Schalkwijk.
