Golden yellow grain
On Wednesday, July 16, Van Lennep and Van Hogendorp will leave Hardenberg with a felling truck. To their displeasure, they look out over the pristine Twente heath and peat area for the first few hours. According to Van Lennep, the land becomes beautiful again near Ootmarsum:"In front of us, the spire of the town rose from golden yellow grain that was surrounded by dark forests.\\\"

Oldenzaal
Because Van Hogendorp is struggling with a sore foot, Van Lennep makes a detour through Ootmarsum and the countryside on his own. The travelers are then driven to Oldenzaal. In this textile city, they see factories that produce coarse goods and bomba vinegar: a type of textile made of linen and cotton."The market is spacious, the main streets clean, but in the slums the manure is on the street\\\", writes Van Lennep.

Sunset
In the evening, Van Lennep takes a walk through a nearby forest and enjoys a colorfully described sunset. The pleasant feelings in his mind, however, are rudely disturbed by dogs"(...) who came to attack me and sent me flying over a ditch and dike\\\". Those loyal four-legged friends always...
