Jacob van Lennep route, Part 18 (Heerenveen - Steenwijk)

Welfare
Van Lennep and Van Hogendorp will arrive in Heerenveen on Wednesday, July 9. They drink a coffee in the Herenlogement and take a detour through the village where "(...) prosperity smiled at us everywhere\\\". A little later it pours, so the travelers go to Joure in a carriage. After an overnight stay, they continue via Sloten, Wijckel and Lemmer: places they have been before and which are also part of the fourth stage . That is why the cycle route now leads you along the Tjeukemeer to Kuinre. Van Lennep writes that Kuinre consists of "(...) a row of houses built lengthwise. They collapse due to age."

Weerribben
Van Lennep and Van Hogendorp then continue to Blokzijl. The cycle route takes you to Steenwijk Station. A detour that shows you the rugged landscape of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Here you can still experience something of the silence and unspoilt nature of the Netherlands from 1823. In the fifth radio episode, Maya Schepers visits the De Weerribben Visitor Center, which is located just outside Ossenzijl. She interviews a woman who lived in a dyer's house until 1956. A life without luxury.
