No matter how small the village of Eijsden is, you will find plenty of cultural history. And of course the friendly Limburg way of life. Put on your walking shoes for a lovely walk.
Family Museum
At Heerlijkheid Breust you first grab a terrace for a meal or coffee with pie. From the terrace you have a view of the ancient Sint-Martinuskerk. In recent centuries it has been renovated several times, the history of this church dates back to no less than 1200. Further on you pass the former Ursuline convent from 1899. Nowadays, this building houses the Family Museum and the Culinary Historical Center for South Limburg.
Eisden Castle
On the path along the Maas you can get a breath of fresh air, while watching the rippling water and the boats. On the other side is the Belgian Lanaye. Further on you walk through the park of Eijsden Castle, a pleasure garden dating from 1636. In 1672, Stadtholder William III of Orange established his headquarters in the castle in the fight against the French who attacked Maastricht. At the beginning of the driveway is a chapel surrounded by stately trees: a picture!
