Franklin D. Roosevelt route through Tholen

This cycle route starts with a cup of coffee at Huys van Roosevelt, a fitting starting point for today's route. The ancestors of former American presidents Theodore and Franklin Delano Roosevelt probably came from Oud-Vossemeer. In any case, they descended from Claes Martensen van Rosenvelt, a Dutchman who set foot on New York around 1650. There is a good chance that he came from the Zeeland island of Tholen, where a piece of land was located that had been known as the Rosevelt for centuries. This route passes places where the family had land and/or farms. Along the way you will also discover the Old Steam Pumping Station, the Roosevelt Information Centre (in the Ambachtsherenhuis), the Four Freedoms monument, the former Huize Roosevelt, 't oude Smidsklokje, the NH church and the De Jager mill.
