Leeuwarden, Nature Museum Fryslân and the Poptaslot

You will encounter many sights on this route, ideal if you fancy an extensive day out. Get off at the De Groene Ster recreation area, the Sint Bonifatiuskerk, Natuurmuseum Fryslân and the stately Poptaslot!

Green Star
The route starts at Stiens. In the village you can admire the medieval St. Vitus Church, it's a picture! Via Gytsjerk you cycle to Hurdegarijp. Just before Leeuwarden you pass through De Groene Ster, a recreation area with sunbathing areas, beaches and forest around the small lake De Kleine Wielen.

Saint Boniface Church
In Leeuwarden you will pass the Sint Bonifatius Church, built at the end of the nineteenth century to a design by the well-known neo-Gothic architect Cuypers. This church is one of his most important works. Further on you can visit Natuurmuseum Fryslân, with the skeleton of a gigantic blue whale. In Marssum you will pass another historic building: the stately Poptaslot, also known as Azingastate or Heringastate. It was built in the fifteenth century for a lawyer from Leeuwarden.
