Wageningen, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 950613
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Wageningen is a nice starting point for this beautiful route through the IJsselvallei. Via Renkum and Wolfheze you make a beautiful meander to the Veluwe, where you will discover a sheepfold.
Narrow Gauge Museum
You quickly take the ferry to the other side of the Rhine, where you can visit Steenbakkerij Randwijk GSS. Here you will find the Gelders Narrow Gauge Museum and a monumental brickworks, where bricks can still be baked in the old-fashioned way with a coal-fired ring kiln.
Edese sheep herd
At Ede you cycle right past the sheepfold where the herd that grazes on the Edese and Ginkelse Heide resides. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the number of Veluwe Heide sheep has rapidly decreased due to stricter laws and regulations, but this breed is now doing better. Further on you will pass Heimerstein Castle: after the original castle was completely destroyed during the Battle of Grebbeberg in 1940, it was rebuilt in 1946.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
