Description
With this route you take a tour through the touristy Netherlands at its best! From Purmerend you drive to the Purmerbos, a relatively young nature reserve. Monnickendam is rich in monumental gems with stepped, bell or pointed gables. Then you cycle across the Waterlandse Zeedijk, which was built in the Middle Ages! You arrive at the island of Marken, which enjoys a protected cityscape in its entirety. Step off for a moment to enjoy the unique atmosphere. You can take a ferry across the Gouwzee to the port of Volendam. Here you can enjoy something to eat at Hotel Café Restaurant van den Hogen. After a visit to old Edam, you cycle through the vast Dutch lowlands. Enjoy the fresh air and the peace and quiet before you get off again in Purmerend.
