From Westenschouwen to Zierikzee

This route also takes you through some nature reserves, authentic villages and the beautiful former fortified town of Zierikzee.

Plompetoren Your starting point, Paviljoen Duinzigt, is beautifully situated in the dunes of the village of Westenschouwen. On sunny days you have sun everywhere on the lovely, sheltered terrace from early in the morning until late in the evening. When you set off, you will pass the Plompetoren, an old church tower from 1468, on the dike along the Oosterschelde. From the top you have a beautiful panorama of the area. Further on you drive past the Schelphoek nature reserve and the Prunjepolder.

Zierikzee A little further on, Zierikzee appears on the horizon: a pleasant town with no less than 568 monuments. It is not for nothing that the historic Zierikzee has a protected cityscape. Take some time to enjoy the cultural history, for example in the Town Hall Museum. Then you drive to the picturesque Schuddebeurs: a village hidden in the green. Via Kerkweve and Serooskerke you cycle back to the dunes, to end the day with your feet in the sea.
