From the village of Blauwhuis in Southwest Friesland, the route takes you through the vast Frisian countryside. Put on your sturdy shoes for a beautiful trip with plenty of peace and quiet.
St. Vitus Church
In Blauwhuis you can first take a look at the beautiful St. Vitus Church. The building dates from 1871 and was designed by Pierre Cuypers, the man who designed the Rijksmuseum building and the Central Station in Amsterdam. As you walk out of the village, you will see some beautiful old buildings. In the countryside you will find the characteristic Frisian landscape of grassy fields, ditches and farms surrounded by trees.
Slow down
What you immediately notice: the silence in this region. You walk on roads with hardly any traffic, so you can relax and get a breath of fresh air. That's a nice way to relax. Further on you walk on an unpaved path along the reed-covered banks of the Workumertrekvaart, a beautiful spot. The route ends in Blauwhuis.
