This walk takes you through Wedde and Wedderveer. Along the way there is plenty of natural beauty and cultural history to admire.
Kerkepad
You walk a bit on the leafy old church path between Wedde and Wedderveer. To the right of this path is a vortex that was created during the Saint Martin flood of 1686. In Wedde you can take a look at the Church of Wedde, a modest building that nevertheless dates from the thirteenth century. Some lords of the Wedderburcht are buried there.
Hoorndermeden
You pass Huis te Wedde, also known as the Wedderburcht. The building originally dates from the fourteenth century. You then walk along the edge of the Hoorndermeden, a nature reserve on the Westerwoldse Aa with vast swampy grasslands. From Wedderveer you walk through the Wedderbergen, a wooded nature reserve with some shifting dunes. The last part of the route leads you along the banks of the Westerwoldsche Aa. How wonderfully quiet it is here!
