Description
The route starts opposite the small parking lot just outside the village with a narrow forest path which is quite difficult to pass because it is overgrown. A path that is not recognizable as a walking path at first, but is indeed one. It leads past a small farmer's campsite bordering rolling farmland.
The second part runs along a piece of Ruiten-Aa where there is no path, we simply followed the watercourse through the meadow. Halfway through this part we came to a continuous sandy path which was clearly used as a walking route. Instead of following the route along the water, we followed this sand path, which ended at the same point as the water route in the village.
After crossing the village we walked on a cycle path to the north where we followed the Ruiten-Aa again on an unpaved footpath. To the right of the path we found the Gieselbaarg or Geselberg where at the end of 1500 people were flogged and burned. These events from the past form a great and above all stark contrast to the loveliness of the landscape. A photo of the monument with the names of the deceased is attached to this route.
The Ruiten-Aa has a bend here that we followed, small water rapids for a healthy fish stock rippled along the route, a small bridge brought us to the other side, a nice moment to reflect on the beauty of the area. After the bridge our road followed through more reed beds and woodland, through swing gates past sheep herds back to the paved road and the small parking lot.
