Description
This route largely runs through the former raised bog area that belonged to the Bourtangermoor (over 50,000 ha). On old maps of this area you will come across names with the word 'lenten' in them. A lent was a loading and unloading place for the transport of mainly peat and hay, an important link for the exploitation of the raised bog. Lenten lay on the cover sand and were reinforced with stones. Nowadays the Hunzelaagte is characterized as a wide and flat peat colony area.
