Description

This route largely passes through the former raised bog area that belonged to Bourtangermoor (over 50,000 ha). On old maps of this area you will come across names with the word'lenten\\\' in them. A lent was a loading and unloading place for the removal of mainly peat and hay, an important link for the exploitation of the raised peat. Lents lay on the cover sand and were reinforced with stones. Nowadays, the Hunzelaagte is characterized as a wide and flat peat colonial area.
