Cycling route 941098
Provided by: route.nl
By ferry to Europoort, by ferry to Maassluis: plenty of boats with this route! Around you you see gigantic container ships, a mighty face. You will also explore the polder and the Dutch Military Coastal Defense Museum.
Europort
The starting point of this route is a bicycle rental, Peter van Leeuwen Tweewielers in Hoek van Holland. Useful! From here you immediately board the Fast Ferry to the Noordzeeweg, part of Europoort. On the right you see the Maasvlakte, a 45-kilometre-long constructed port area. You cycle past the high and low lighthouse of Europoort, indispensable for the ships to find their way to the sea. There are now 6 lighthouses throughout the area that indicate 3 routes.
Military Coastal Defense Museum
With the ferry you cross a little further to Maasland, a picturesque ancient mining village. In 1574 this area was still under water when William of Orange had the dikes cut through to expel the Spaniards. A part of Maasland enjoys a protected village view. Along the Foppenplas and the Vlaardingervaart you cycle in the direction of Hoek van Holland. Just before the city you pass the Dutch Military Coastal Defense Museum (turn right after the forest), worth a visit!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
