With the ferry to Europoort, with the ferry to Maassluis: enough boats with this route! Around you you see gigantic container ships, a mighty sight. You also explore the polder and the Dutch Military Coastal Defense Museum.
Europoort From here you can immediately board the Fast Ferry to the Noordzeeweg, part of Europoort. On the right you will find the Maasvlakte, a 45 kilometre long man-made harbour area. You cycle past the high and low lighthouses of Europoort, essential for ships to find their way to sea. There are now 6 lighthouses in the entire area that indicate 3 routes.
Military Coastal Defence Museum A little further on, you cross over to Maasland by ferry, a picturesque, centuries-old reclamation village. In 1574, this area was flooded when William of Orange had the dikes cut through to drive out the Spanish. Part of Maasland enjoys a protected village view. Along the Foppenplas and the Vlaardingervaart, you cycle back towards Hoek van Holland. Just before the city, you pass the Dutch Military Coastal Defence Museum (turn right after the forest), which is worth a visit!
