In Muiden you can experience a beautiful fortress history. You also walk a bit through the polder and over the dike along the IJmeer. Bring your binoculars for beautiful views!

Pampus
The Muizenfort is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam and was built at the end of the nineteenth century. A wonderful place to look around and learn more about the Dutch fortress history. From the fort you can walk straight into the polder. Here you will also experience the characteristic Dutch cultural history. You look out over vast meadows that are intersected by ditches. From the dike you look out over the IJmeer. In the distance is the fortress island of Pampus.

Beautiful Muiden
You walk a bit along the canal that has been constructed around Het Muiderslot. A little later you can visit the famous thirteenth-century moated castle itself, it has been furnished as a museum and is considered one of the most beautiful Dutch castles. From the lock you walk further, across the Herengracht. Just like on its namesake in Amsterdam, you can enjoy a beautiful picture here: you can see pleasure boats bobbing on the Vecht, on the left are many beautiful old buildings.

There is also a museum about both the Defense Line of Amsterdam and the New Dutch Waterline. A beautiful film is shown on three wide screens with the story of both lines. There are information panels and a DIY furniture with information about Fort C. An escape room will also open in the fort in the autumn. The Muizenfort is also an excellent location to start your cycling or walking tour here. We have set out various routes for cyclists and walkers. Opposite the fortress you can get a drink and fries or fresh fish.

The Muiderslot is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the Netherlands. It was built around 1285 by Count Floris V, as one of the castles to keep North Holland under control. Ten years later the count was kidnapped and taken to Muiden. After a few days of imprisonment, his captors decided it was no longer safe and took Floris with them. When enraged farmers tried to free him, Floris was murdered.
